One thing important I've learned is that everyone is the same and we all have our special talents. I am lucky to have several friends who are not necessarily mainstream in their career paths but have what I see as passion inside of them. One friend is really good with art and loves the Mac. I try to see him every once in a while to get my dose of inspiration. Another friend taught himself Java, is the type of person who tinkers with things. If I ever had to start a small company, I think I'd take tend towards a small group of folks passionate about different aspects art, programming, finance. I would ignore pedigree. Passion is more important than pedigree.
