2004-09-18 Guerrilla Open Source Development

Well development on Nostalgia has picked up again. My friend James and I are each armed with HP laptops. It's more than enough to build the app. I've got all free development tools (Tomcat,Netbeans,MySQL,Java).

James and I work for the same company now. We've taken to a loose schedule for getting this thing up and running. We will meet once a week at the Montgomery County Library. We are able to borrow a study room there for 1 hour. For our first session, we refreshed our ideas on what was going to be done with the app.

The project plan calls for hacking away at it for the rest of the year. We'll work 2005 to getting a version 1 out into open source land. My website will be a staging area where we can throw different versions of the software out.

With 2 kids, it's hard to commit to building things like this. But it's something I can say I've accomplished and a good example for the two girls. Think of an idea, put it out there using limited resources, and see if it sticks. Who knows, we may be creating an engine for quality personal software applications.
