My work life in business intelligence is fulfilling for me. I don't have any plans for rising up with the next briliant startup. That being said, I have a lot of inventive projects going on at home trying to capture my family activities/processes and memories. The tools are starting to get out there. My favorite is Apple's iLife.
At work, I take a bunch of data, flesh out and document processes, think of better ways to do somethings by combining disparate data together. I think it's a noble pursuit to do the same thing with home life. I like to cobble these different tools together to come out different processes with cool deliverables. Today, I've got digital picture collection activities, home video production processes, financial management and bill paying activities. My newer plans are tying my other family and friends closer together through a social network. The many times mentioned Nostalgia application will one day be the engine for this.
As I get older, my interests in young person things are being replaced with building the infrastructure to help maintain a strong social network for my kids. This social network will help keep others, their god parents, their family and friends involved in their lives.
Today's networks like Friendster put closer spin on single people meeting each other. I'd like to define more of a family based social network. Right now, I blog about it all the time. I spend a few hours a week meeting at a local library close to work doing development type work.
