So maybe Madonna had it right. Her career longevity is marked with several iterations of reinventing herself. Through it all, the one constant is her mastery of her craft and painting her masterpieces in elaborate performances.
I've taken a few risks in my career. I've gone from a consultant to a sales engineer to a permanent employee. I've strived through 2 bachelors and a masters degree. On my own, I'm self taught in Java and have sketched out ideas that I'd like to build out into a business. My inner voice tells me I haven't done anything until I've built out one of my ideas and tried to sell it.
What to do to reinvent myself? I feel that I've got leadership abilities that are not completely harnessed. Well, if I could continue to build out the idea of Nostalgia, I might test the waters. A large risk might be to sell everything I had, move to the Philippines, and hire two or three programmers to build out the idea. I might then develop a marketing plan and go out to see if I could use my Masters training to spread the software out.
This might be a big gamble but it's one that would stretch my possibilities. Sometimes, it can be the safe bet to continue at a job you are comfortable with. I've grown as a business intelligence professional. I'm confident I could comfortably do this type of job for the next 7 years until I'm 40. There's a fire in my heart that wants to accomplish more for myself and not for someone else.
