2004-11-27 Self Imposed Sabbatical

I remember having a conversation with my manager in a social setting a month ago. The question was posed - what would I be if I weren't working here in this business intelligence job right now? His reply was that he'd probably be a carpentar. I joked that I might start a convenience store. Honestly, I've keep as simple a lifestyle as I could, saving money so that I could afford to live for a short burst of time without a paycheck. It is a possibility in my 5 year plan to take a short 6 month sabbatical to dedicate myself to sharpening my skills at building and marketing ideas.

Imagine you could look into the future. Imagine you could see that if you took that 6 month period of time and dedicated every ounce of yourself into forming an idea, your world would change and a world of opportunities would open up to you. Would you do it?

It would be heaven to me to immerse myself in finishing Nostalgia. I would love to document and implement everything I've learned and address in it things I find wrong with today's IT landscape. I could see myself writing code day and night. I could see myself growing in directions I wanted to go instead of being led by the mundane tasks of a full time job.
