There's all this talk about finding the Root Cause. And I tend to agree that someone who goes out and solves the big problems should and is typically rewarded very handsomely.
The guys who solve the big problems save a lot of work for people and unnecessary costs downstream by people working on an inefficient or bug ridden system.
How much better would be my work life be here if the cultural environment was more about knowing how things work, how they work together, and building systems based on a complete knowledge. To simplisitic maybe.
So advice I would give for young engineers is to look for the big problems to solve. Think about their solution. Write about it. Work on implementing solutions creatively. Then, go out there and consult and build a winning track record.
I hope it's not too late for me to do the same.
