2005-09-04 The Task Ahead

.All done between 5am and 9am. I once approached an English professor of mine, Molly Moynahan, about a delimma I had. I was having a tough time keeping up with the reading lists in all my English classes. In a typical English class, I'd be tasked to read several hundred pages a week. She gave me some advice that stuck with me. She told me to read every night even if just for 5 minutes before I went to bed. The books would eventually get read. I credit that piece of advice with getting me through the English degree.

I still follow this advice in other areas. I've got a good life now, family, a decent job, and still excited enough about the prospects of doing that much more. I understand now what they mean when they say that youth is wasted on the young. With young children, it is hard to fire on all cylinders to start a company. However, I also now understand the saying that all good things come in time. With the experience I have now, I believe I can build anything that I focus on and work at a bit at a time. The end result is better for it. I understand that I have to conserve and focus my energy. Most days, I have between 5am and 9am to craft any idea I am working on at the time. I will need to in the future plan out that time more wisely and produce more in that time.

Eventually, it will get done.

Back to serendipity...I'm looking to redo my website and I've found a content management system called Mambo soon to be renamed Joomla. I found it because I was admiring the transparent drop down menus on Pentaho.org. I'll spend the rest of the year honing a business plan, website content, and working on finishing the LockAndKeyID application using PHP. In the meantime, I will remain a leader at GSI building descision support systems. I've already put out more than 3 systems that help finance, merchandisers, and operations manage aspects of the business.
