V. Your Career As A Story : The Choices You Make
Great stories stick in your mind, live in your heart, and last forever. One of the stories I relate to is from a book called Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card. A colleague of mine turned me on to it. From what I remember, it's about a boy who shows great potential, has a fire in his heart, and battles to keep that fire from turning into uncontrolled rage. The boy is selected as a candidate to be trained to command an Armada against the impending other. The book compares the boy to others who are also chosen. In the background, there is always a sense of urgency that the Alien's are getting ready to attack and wipe out the human race. Ender's training starts with games and progresses to military exercise. In the long run, Ender becomes commander of the Armada.
I think of my career as building a story. Your resume is the cliff notes to it. The resume is filled with all the choices you made to get to where you are. I'd like to end up as commander of an Armada rather than a life-time worker bee. However, the primary goal is to survive....
